Ex JustCast owner, and now owner of the new Youlivenow streaming site, Steve Swetman is expanding his empire, and is now renting out Icecast and Shoutcast server space.
Now, is it me, or is there something odd here?
On one hand, he’s advertising Icecast and Shoutcast servers for $30 a year, where you can only stream up to 320kbps.
And at the same time, he’s advertising his streaming site, Youlivenow, where you can stream at whatever bitrate you want, for free?
This offer is something SexyChris will snap up when he’s three sheets to the wind 🙂
While I agree Steve is a complete twat, you seem to be misunderstanding something. A Shoutcast server is used with SAM Broadcaster, it’s an audio only stream. 320kbps mp3 or aac is as high as you can go – which is the same as the maximum audio bitrate when using XSplit, OBS, Adome FMLE, etc. It only seems low because there’s no video involved. At this moment in time, there is no ability to stream higher than 320kbps audio anywhere – because of limitations of the encoders.
Ah yes, he is just talking about an audio server by the sounds of it. I read it and just assumed he meant video streaming with both too. Shoutcast, then followed by Icecast is what i used to use many years ago, on my first streaming site. Shoutcast is great for a free video/audio stream through Winamp etc, but Icecast is great in that you can encrypt/authenticate the streams to your website, so nobody that isn’t added to the database can watch the cast.
Ah, the good old days eh 🙂
